Dr Sax

Bio

"Music to move you, body and soul".

Inspired by the energy, passion and free expression found in the writing of Jack Kerouac, Dr Sax borrowed the name from one of his books and set about creating their own unique blend of Jazz, Rock, Soul Pop, Funk & Latin.

“You guys rock!” was the review posted after the band performance at the Glastonbury Festival 2002 and six years and two albums later the band are still rocking, now with guitarist Cliff Moore (younger brother of blues legend Gary Moore) playing in the band.

For the new 4th album, 'Take It to the Bridge' there are 4 new singers too: Firstly Paul Richards, who delivers a heartfelt vocal on 'What About You', secondly, Steve Williams, who has been playing keyboards with the band from the beginning (he also plays keys for Jamelia) delivers two awesome vocal performances... but the truly amazing new finds are 19 year old Sarah Davies and 17 year old Kelly Griggs who both sing all the way through the album... complimented beautifully by our three backing vocalists, Abby, Danii & Lexie. Sarah is also featured in the band's first promo video.

Venue Magazine CD Review July 09

There’s a lot to this album by Dr Sax, aka Paul Raymond – so much, in fact that it takes a few listens to get a sense of it all. In the end though it’s pretty catchy stuff that creeps up on you with some deftly poppy hooks, which is surprising as the general tone of the album is smooth soul-jazz with the occasional outing of funk & swing. The dozen self-penned/arranged/produced tracks cover a wide range, with Raymond’s sax and Gary Alesbrook’s flugel horn superbly matched on the tight funk of the title track, Richie Blake’s bass popping nicely underneath and Sarah Davies’s gospel haunted vocal on ‘Lead Me to the Water’ both highlights. There’s even a touch of Quincy Jones from time to time, notably the lush and slinky soul of ‘Brief Encounter’.
