Singer Hazel Mills has landed herself a record deal within weeks of graduating with a first class degree.Hazel, 21, from Wraxall, who graduated in performing arts, has been snapped up by a record company in Weston-super-Mare, Xpress Records.
The singer, who cites Imogen Heap and Radiohead as inspirations, was spotted when she went into a recording studio with the band she used to be with.
Hazel, who works three times a week in administration at Bristol Royal Infirmary, said the band were a bit disappointed when they split up. She said: "When they offered me a record deal, at first they thought they were part of that. It was a bit of a strain on our friendship at first but now they are very happy for me."
Hazel's contract is a development deal that lasts a minimum of two years. Xpress Records will cover expenses from recording time to backing musicians. Xpress chief executive Paul Raymond said: "I've no doubt she will be a huge success. She is absolutely fantastic, a hugely credible artist." For gig dates see www.myspace.com/hazelmills .
